An Inauspicious Beginning

Man, starting a blog is pretty damned arrogant, isn't it?

Even putting your words out for the world to see seems to suggest that you feel that you've got something worth saying, more than the average user does. You're the signal, and the readers are just noise.

Now, I know that's not true. After all, I'm just a reader myself, albeit one that happens to post here every once in a while. So I'm hoping I can put aside how amazing (or not) I think I am - and that this blog can be a bit different than what you're used to.

Different is good, right? Hell, it worked for Apple. But enough fluff. Let's get down to business.

My name is Chris Dary. I'm a Web Application Developer, and this is a blog of web technologies. It's my trade and my passion. Some things you'll be likely to see:

Big Ideas
Ones that I know I'll never implement by myself, but would love to see someone work on (either with or without me).
Neat Code
Not necessarily all my own code. Things I think everyone who would read this could benefit from. It'll probably focus around my strengths. PHP, Python with Django, Javascript (with the amazing JQuery) and Coldfusion are what I'm into right now, although I've been known to dabble in all sorts of things.
User-driven Content
Yep. A 'queue' section, where people can decide what I write about. If it's close to even (meaning nobody's voting), then you get what I give ya.
Low Volume
This sounds like a weakness, if you follow what a lot of the 'professional' bloggers say. I don't. In keeping with my design, I'm a bit of a minimalist. RSS is there for a reason, and I think my readers are probably familiar with it. To provide quality over quantity, I'm expecting about one post a week. Maybe less.
Original posts
No blogspam here, buddy.

How about some things I can almost guarantee you will not see at umbrae:

  • The word 'blogosphere'.
  • The top 10 list of top 10 lists
  • The phrase 'BREAKING NEWS'

Hopefully I'll be just different enough to keep your attention, but just similar enough to make you feel at home.

Hello, world.
